MyNeS — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-09-27
MyNeS is a local network scanner. The scan runs entirely on your device and talks to the devices on your own Wi‑Fi network. There are no user accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no trackers. The one exception is the optional Identify with AI feature, described below, which sends the technical facts of a scanned device to our hosted service so it can name the device for you.
What the app does
- Scans your local network (Wi‑Fi) to list the devices connected to it, using ping, TCP connect, mDNS/Bonjour, SSDP/UPnP, banner grabs and — if you enable it — Bluetooth LE. This all happens on your device.
- Optionally connects to a Home Assistant instance you configure, using a token you provide, to compare its device list with the scan.
- Optionally, when you tap Identify with AI (or enable background scanning with identification), sends a scanned device's technical facts to our hosted identification service to get back a manufacturer/model/type guess.
Data we collect
MyNeS has no telemetry and no crash reporting. The only data that leaves your device to reach us is what the optional Identify with AI feature sends:
- Device facts of the scanned network device — its local IP, MAC address, hardware vendor (from the MAC), hostname, current type guess, open ports and advertised services. This describes a device on your network, not you.
- A per‑install token — a random identifier generated once on your device (e.g.
dev_ab12…) and sent with each identification request so the service can tell installs apart and apply rate limits. It is not your name, email, phone number, advertising ID, or location, and it is not linked to any account.
This data is sent to https://mynes-ai.fxerkan.com only when you use the feature. It is used solely to identify the device and is not used for advertising or tracking. The service may pass the device facts to third‑party AI providers to produce the guess. If you never use Identify with AI, no data leaves your device except the LAN/Home Assistant traffic described below.
Data stored on your device
Scan results, your device names/notes, settings, and any Home Assistant URL/token you enter are stored only on your device (local app storage) so the app works across restarts. Uninstalling the app removes them. This data never leaves your device except:
- LAN traffic to the devices being scanned (that is the scan itself),
- requests to the Home Assistant instance you configured, if you configured one, and
- the Identify with AI requests described above, if you use that feature.
Permissions and why
- Local Network / Wi‑Fi state / multicast — to discover devices on your LAN.
- Bluetooth (scan/connect) — only if you enable BLE discovery; used to find nearby Bluetooth devices. The Android
BLUETOOTH_SCANpermission is declaredneverForLocation; MyNeS does not request or use location. - Notifications — only if you enable background scan alerts.
